Despite the police dubbing braid chopping cases as sheer rumour mongering, new cases of people alleging their hair being chopped off  under mysterious circumstances have been reported from several parts of the state on Wednesday.

One of such ‘victims’ of the braid chopping, Ishrana, a resident of  Doctorganj in  Vikasnagar, Derhadun said while talking to this correspondent that most of her hair had been chopped off  on Tuesday night as she had slept with her husband and  three children in a locked room.  “I was horror-struck as I woke early in the morning and found around two-third of  my hair being chopped. Apart from the persons of various print and electronic media, local police also came to our house. But they all rubbished it off as superstition.  However, this is what happened to me. I was down with headache and dizziness when I woke up in the morning,” she said.

Another  such case was reported  from Goraparav, lalkuan in Nainital district on Wednesday. A Class XI student of GGIC Gholakhera said that  she had developed a severe headache around 12 AM while sleeping  with her mother. “ Scared, we both came out of the house. A little  later, we went back to the room and slept.   At around 6.30 am on Wednesday, as I  got up  I  turned frozen in horror finding my  hair being chopped,” she recounted.  After words spread of such an incident  having happened, the scared neighbours assembled at her house and  cops from Mandi police chowki too arrived.

At Banbhulpura line in Haldwani, a 13 year old girl  allegedly lost her hair when she was  washing utensils  in her house. Cops from Banbhulpura police post reached her house and assured investigation.

The number of braid chopping cases under mysterious circumstances  on the rise, police continue to be on a denial mode, rubbishing such cases as rumours.  Over the last few days, braid chopping cases have been reported from Bhurarani village in Rudrapur, Gulriya in Kashipur, Sutiya, Bhanga and Shankar Farm in Pulbhatta and Nai Basti Mohallah in Jaspur. Two such cases have been reported from Jhabreda of Mangalour and Teliwali area of Roorkee, Haridwar. Another case has surfaced at Sahaspur in Dehradun too. However, no FIR has been lodged so far on the cases. Police say that they can hardly  proceed as they  cannot find scientific evidences in support of such complainants.
