Dehradun: A 60-year old Nepali woman who has been missing from home for about 17 years and was living at the Nari Niketan shelter in Dehradun for about a decade has now finally been reunited with her family.
The lady named Parvati Rukmini was handed over to her son here on Friday, said social welfare additional secretary Manoj Chandran.
Chandran said that her son Gopal and son-in law Santosh had reached Dehradun on Thursday to take her home after learning about her whereabouts from different sources.
The son had brought with him a photograph of his mother posing with her husband, who is also alive.
Gopal said that his family had taken his mother by bus from Nepal to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh many times for treatment at a hospital there. On one of these bus journeys from Nepal to Gorakhpur, the relative accompanying her did not notice when Parvati Rukmini got off the bus at some point and since that day 17 years ago, and remained a ‘missing person’ till recently. After getting separated from her family, she was first found destitute in Kotdwar, Pauri district and sent to a government-run shelter .
According to sources, the lost lady was pregnant when she was found in Kotdwar seventeen years ago. She had also delivered a baby three months after being admitted to the shelter but the child did not survive. From the shelter home in Kotdwar she was transferred to the Nari Niketan shelter home in Dehradun during 2007.
The authorities in Dehradun informed her family members about this and other details they had about Parvati Rukmini. After fulfilling the necessary departmental procedure, the lady left for Nepal with her family by bus on Friday evening. PNS
