Negi seeks Uniyal's ouster

Jan Sangharsh Morcha head and former vice chairman of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, Raghunath Singh Negi, has accused the State’s Advocate General UK Uniyal of being corrupt and inefficient.

In a letter to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Negi has demanded that Uniyal be removed from this post as he has failed to perform his duties efficiently.

Addressing the media, Negi said that he has written to the Chief Minister informing that from April 4, 2013 to December 31, 2013, around 123 Government appeals were received of which 31 were dismissed and not a single case was decided in favour of the State government.

“What is the use of the AG if the Government is to lose with about Rs 60 lakh having been paid to Uniyal by the Government in addition to the lakhs of rupees being spent on providing him facilities every monthIJ The AG’s intent and performance in the 31 cases which the State lost must be investigated as he has dishonoured his post by working for personal gains at the cost of the State.” Negi charged that Uniyal also defended Engineering Project India ltd (EPIl) as an advocate though a Central Vigilance Commission inquiry was being conducted against the blacklisted EPIl.

“He should have advocated for the government but he defended this blacklisted enterprise,” said Negi.

He alleged that Uniyal had earned crores of rupees in return for his ‘inefficient’ advocacy. The interests of the State were harmed by Uniyal’s inefficient advocacy in cases pertaining to reservation for Statehood activists, division of estate, age limit for unemployed and other important cases, added Negi.  He informed that he has requested the Chief Minister to immediately dismiss Uniyal from the post of Advocate General and direct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities during his term in office.
