Students of fourth batch of IIM Kashipur get vital tips

You will be equipped with success mantras here," he said. "Organisations do not create jobs for you, it is for their own survival and growth that they need people, and they need the best ones. So what you would require is, "One, the basic understanding of the concepts of management; two, on how to implement them in real-life situations, and three, the environment within which a manager works," said Somnath Ghosh, Dean, Academics and the acting director of the IIM while addressing the students of fourth batch (2014-16) of IIM Kashipur on Tuesday.

He further said, "The good placements that you would win, will depend largely on your knowledge and the personality traits you build up by participation in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the Institute while undergoing the rigors of two year PGP". "You need to be an ace students…all your efforts need to be well done… and repeatedly so," he clarified. "We believe in giving you a fair deal - a balance of academics and fun," he added.

Tata Motors limited Pantagar Plant head Alok Kumar Singh, who was the chief guest, enlightened the students on the future demands. "Future demands leadership out of you," he said, adding, "It is the one who creates, innovates, develops, looks beyond operations, benchmarks performance… and creative leadership is powered by imagination and vision". "When it is a storm, some build walls, whereas the leaders build wind-mills," said Singh, adding this punch-line.

Vikram Sharma, the HR Head of the Tata Motors, suggested them to read the popular book, Snapshots from Hell - Making of an MBA. "Placements should not be the be-all and end-all of your life… you need to have a regulated and healthy life," he suggested while motivating them to do the best in whatever comes their way. Quoting Martin luther King, he said, "Whatever you do, do it well. A man should do his work such that the living, the unborn and the dead would not have done better".

The programme, attended by faculty members and staff, commenced with Bhagat, the senior student welcoming the newcomers and presenting a brief of achievements of the Students' Council during the last one year.

Somnath Ghosh, Dean, Academics, and the Acting Director of the Institute gave his welcome address.
