'Need to improve teaching quality in Govt schools'

The State Government’s decision to open English medium Rajiv Gandhi Abhinav Residential Schools in the inaccessible areas is laudable as hitherto deprived children would be benefited, but it also highlights the directionless approach of the State Government in general and education department in particular.

Educationists believe that there are enough schools in the State to cater the needs of the students and the stress should be on improving the quality of teaching in the Government schools.

The recent survey by Annual Status on Education Report (ASER) pointed that the private schools are fast catching up with the government schools in rural areas also as almost 50% students are opting for private schools here. A retried teacher US Gusain said that tendency of teachers to get posting near cities, politicization of education department, pushing teachers in duties other than teaching, poor knowledge level of teachers and improving the curriculum are the main areas which merit immediate attention. “When the Government has failed in managing the existing

schools how is it planning to manage an English medium residential school that too in an inaccessible area,” Gusain asked.

The State convener of the Right to Education (RTE) forum Raghu Tiwari told The Pioneer that the education department should make arrangements for giving quality education to all the students and effort should be made to bring all the schools at par with the Kendriya Vidhyalayas (KVs).
