Nari Niketan inmates recovering fast, claims officer

The district probation officer (DPO) Meena Bisht stated on Tuesday that the inmates of the State-run shelter home Nari Niketan who were admitted at the Doon Hospital on Sunday are now recovering. Notably, 24 inmates of the home were reportedly taken ill and some of them were rushed to the hospital after they vomited on Sunday, something which prompted the new Governor Baby Rani  Maurya  to make a surprise visit to the home on Monday.

However, the home officials and others claimed that the figure of the inmates taken ill as rolled out by some was inflated.

Talking to The Pioneer, Bisht said, “I visited Nari Niketan this morning and found that three inmates are down with a viral fever. Four inmates suffering from high fever were admitted at the hospital.

The three who are down with fever would be shifted to the hospital soon for better medical treatment. Our team regularly visits the home and inspects the food and other things to ensure that they are being taken proper care of.”

Quizzed over the environment of the Nari Niketan against the backdrop of problems surfacing at regular intervals, she said, “People tend to exaggerate things. For instance, viral fever is common enough. It can happen to anyone. The same happened at the home. This is quite normal. The supervisor there is alert. There are 117 inmates living in the home. Just a few of them have been taken ill.”

She, further, said that a final report of the inspection would be prepared soon and it would be submitted to the chief medical officer (CMO) and further to department concerned.
