Nari Niketan and the women inmates residing over there are consistently suffering from official neglect. The officials of the Nari Niketan seem to be in no mood to take back the inmates who were admitted to Doon Hospital in critical condition few weeks ago, though four of them have recovered enough to be discharged from the hospital.
As per senior physician at Doon Hospital, Dr KC Pant, out of the seven inmates admitted to Doon Hospital four patients have already recovered and are ready to be discharged but no caretaker or any responsible official from Nari Niketan has come yet to take these inmates back. The seven inmates were admitted with a complaint of diarrhea, vomiting and anemia, he added. Dr Pant also informed that patients from Nari Niketan are admitted on regular basis and their number is increasing these days.
He further said that recently some officials of the District Social Welfare department had visited the hospital to review the condition of these patients but they refused to take the recovered inmates back. He said that these officials of the Social Welfare department said that they are still in talk with the chief medical officer and would most probably try to admit these inmates to the mental hospital at Selaqui.
As per Dr Pant the hospital administration has kept the inmates under regular observation and proper care is also being taken till any responsible official comes with a claim of guardianship of these inmates.
Recently around seven more inmates were admitted to the Doon Hospital in ailing conditions. The patients included both mentally stable and unstable patients.
When asked about this issue, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) Jyoti Neeraj Khairwal said that she had asked a superintendent of the Nari Niketan to visit the Doon Hospital to observe the exact condition of the admitted inmates there.
The superintendent reported that condition of the five inmates is still not stable and they require further treatment. She said that some inmates were still shivering and some were under observation. Khairwal said that she had also instructed the officials concerned at Nari Niketan to take the inmates back once they completely recover.
However, she also said that out of the total seven inmates admitted at Doon Hospital one inmate would be sent to the mental hospital at Selaqui as she is mentally unfit and can't be treated at Doon hospital.
