NAPSR unhappy over alleged nonchalance of education officers

The National Association for Parents and Student Right (NAPSR) has sounded unhappy over the laidback attitude of the education department officers and said that both the students and their parents are facing serious problems because of this.

Venting displeasure over the lackadaisical attitude of the high-ranking education officers towards the problems they are facing, the head of the association Arif Khan said on Friday that the chief education officer is not very helpful in many cases like in the Pestle Weed school molestation case. “This apathy is landing the parents in serious problems. The students are also feeling insecure,” he added.

Referring to the alleged case of molestation of a student by a swimming coach in Pestle Weed School, NAPSR head stated that the parents of the molested girl had sought transfer certificate (TC) from the school. “But nothing positive is happening,” he alleged.

“We have met the chief education officer on Friday regarding the TC of the student. The chief education officer said that the parents have to submit an application which would be then considered for further processing. We tried to explain about the involvement of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) in the matter and that they have already given a letter to the education department, seeking for TC for the survivor. But the officer insisted that they have not received any letter from SCPCR in writing. But this is not true. This kind of nonchalant attitude of the senior education department officers is helping things to drag on. We are really in a fix,” Khan said.

While citing several instances of the apathetic attitude of the education department officers vis-à-vis the serious problems the students and their parents are facing, he said that some months ago, they had filed an RTI query (Right to Information), highlighting the fact that there are around10 private schools based in the city which do not have proper documents to run schools. “When we asked about the inquiry made into the following cases, the officer asked us to file another RTI on the matter.

This attitude is unfair. To get information regarding any case is our right under the relevant act. The attitude to sit on our queries related to the interests of the students is unacceptable.

Both the parents and the students are facing problems. Justice is being delayed and things are being allowed to drag on intentionally,” Khan rued.
