NAPSR holds awareness rally in city

The National Association for Parents and Students Rights (NAPSR) conducted an awareness rally in the city on Friday. Around 43 political, non-political and activist groups submitted a memorandum to the Governor Baby Rani Maurya and the district magistrate SA Murugeshan, seeking strict action against the private schools which are allegedly taking extra fees from the parents in the name new admission fees, school dresses and various others.

The association further stated that as the new session in the schools is about to start the private schools would again  make the parents to shell out extra money on the pretext of tuition fees, prospectus, books published by expensive publishers, re-admission fees and the like.

An association member said that despite the strict rules in force, the schools would start selling books published by expensive publishers and would make the parents to cough up a lot of money for them in flagrant defiance of the rules.

The association further alleged that the education department and the state commission for protection of child rights (SCPCR) would do nothing save sending notice from time to time.  The association further demanded that the exploitation of the parents should be stopped and to ensure it,  stricter rules must be framed and they must be executed rightly.  They said that framing rules is not enough. “They must be effectively executed on the ground to stop such schools from exploiting the parents, something which is not happening,” said one of the association members.
