The name Dehradun is believed to be derived from the word Dera. The officer in charge of the fair, B P Saklani said that the mast of the flag is actually a stem of Sal tree. He informed that the flag mast is changed after three to five years and this year the mast is not changed. The Mahant himself selects the tree which should be used as mast of the flag.
