A one day orientation workshop on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation was organised at the auditorium of State project office Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) on Wednesday. The workshop was inaugurated by the State education Minister, Mantri Prasad Naithani. Speaking on the occasion, Naithani said that it is imperative that before assessing the students an assessment of teachers and education department officers should be done.

He said that the CCE is a comprehensive issue and opined that one day workshop would be insufficient to cater its actual need. The minister suggested that a three day workshop should be organised on CCE so that a proper plan is formulated after exhaustive discussions.

On a stern note, he said that the department should set up a time limit for its efforts to alleviate the quality of education. Naithani said that emphasis should be laid on development of understanding on Health, environment and moral values by the students.

In his address the Secretary School education, D Senthil Pandian said that the education department has dedicated the year 2016-17 for improving the quality of education. He informed that the department has deployed senior officers as Block Mentors to monitor all 95 blocks of the State. These mentors are regularly touring the schools of their blocks and are closely monitoring the activities there.

He expressed anguish over the fact that the level of understanding of mathematics and languages among the students of the state is below the national average.  Pandian said that the block mentors should have a complete understanding of the CCE. He said that efforts are being made to bring in total transparency in the systems of transfers in the education department.

The Additional Secretary, Ranjna said that the directorates of primary education, secondary education, SSA and State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) should work hand in hand to achieve optimum results.  The additional Project Director SSA, Mukul Kumar Sati said efforts are being made to increase knowledge of mathematics, science and languages in the students.

He informed that mathematics kits would be made available in all the schools of the state in this year and specially developed mathematics and science kits of SCERT would be distributed in 1900 upper primary schools of the state.  The lecturers of SCERT, S K Srivastava, Hemlata Tiwari, Manoj Kumar Shukla, and N K Bijalwan gave presentations of CCE to the block mentors during the workshop.

CCE means that the teachers should assess children’s learning everyday, during the process of teaching- by observing children’s participation, asking questions, facilitating activities, small assignments, projects or tests. The Secondary education director, RK Kunwar, primary education director Seema Jaunsari and other senior officers of department attended the workshop.
