Nainital streets laced with waste littered on Diwali

The tourists visiting the lake city of Nainital these days are having a taste of inefficiency of municipal department and district administration as streets of the town are laced with waste littered on the Diwali. The entire city is dotted with heaps of waste and it appears that the municipal authorities are still suffering from hangover of Diwali vacations as sanitation workers refrained from work on Tuesday as well.

The waste collection and disposal work in the city visited by large number of tourists from the country and abroad is casting a wrong impression on the minds of those visiting the city. The famous Mall road of the city is wearing a dirty look with overflowing waste bins and waste strewn on the road.

Many drains of the city are also chocked with waste and the drain on snow view road overflowed due to choking.

In Tallital and Mallital where makeshift markets are setup during Diwali, the roads looked infested with waste and polythene after these temporary shops were removed. The Zoo road, snow view road, Sukhatal, Aayarpata, and Barapathar areas also remained plagued with dirt and waste.  The DSA ground of the city where fireworks were held on Diwali day is presenting a pathetic picture as waste of crackers is still strewn there.

The Executive Officer (EO) of Municipality Rohtash Sharma said that the sanitation work remained affected on Tuesday due to the leave of sanitation workers on account of Bhai Dooj. He claimed that the situation would be brought under control on Wednesday.
