With only 965 children out of 2,649 being given admission under the Right to Education ( RTE) Act in private schools in Nainital so far this academic session – 2015-2016, the owners of the private schools seem little bothered to rightly implement the much-touted RTE Act .
However, taking a serious note of the matter, the district administration Nainital has directed the district education department to identify such private schools which have not given admission to the children in their schools according to the target given to them.
At the same time, with the admission process on till September, the district administration Nainital has asked the district education department officials to ensure that the private schools enroll children adequately. Their focus is riveted particularly on those private schools where the figure of admissions is not as it should be.
However, with the private school owners remaining apathetic about implementation of RTE to promote basic education, the overall results of the high schools and intermediate board examinations in Nainital district were 66 per cent and 70 per cent respectively in 2014-2015.
Expressing concern over the poor annual results of the high schools and intermediate board examinations, the district administration has again asked the officials concerned to work hard to improve the standard of basic education in the district.
Interestingly, among other things, transfer issue of basic education teachers that remain unresolved till date and poor state of basic infrastructure particularly in the Government-run schools, are worrying Nainital district administration.
The fact is that as many as 174 Government-run schools are still running sans drinking water facility and 194 such schools are yet to be electrified in Nainital, the officials concerned said.
At the same time, as many as 245 Government-run school buildings are in poor shape, making life of school children vulnerable when it rains heavily.
