Nainital asks cable TV operators to complete digitisation by Dec 31

Published on:

As the Government of India has set December 31 as the deadline to complete the cable TV digitisation process, the cable TV consumers who fail to install set-top box within this given period of time may not  be able to watch TV programmes thereafter.

This has prodded the Nainital district administration to ask the cable TV operators to complete the cable TV digitisation process in the district within the given period of time.

However, the cable TV digitisation process has been going on slowly in Nainital  district. The fact is that despite some of the cable TV consumers having already deposited  money in advance for set –top box with their respective area cable operators, they have not yet got the same installed.

However, speaking on the issue, a cable TV operator maintained that due to some technical reasons, the digitisation process is going slow. He assured that the  process would be early completed  by the deadline. The cable operators have also urged the cable TV consumers to cooperate with them on the  matter.

Mention worthy, the digitisation of cable TV  network is basically to curb theft of entertainment tax. Earlier, many  like the hoteliers used to run many TV sets with a single cable connection. Now, only one TV set can be run with a single set-top box, said the Nainital district administration officials.

Further, thee viewers will also have choice to choose channels  of their choice after i the set-top box is installed.

Thus, as the officials  claim, digitisation of cable TV network will not just add to the state exchequer  but also help the viewers watch channels of their choice. To speed  things up, the entertainment tax department officials have   been asked  to have a proper coordination with the cable TV operators.  Nainital district administration has appointed B l Firmal, ADM, as nodal officer for the ongoing cable TV digitisation process.
