Reviewing the progress of the anti-encroachment campaign, currently being carried out in a phased manner in the lake city, the Nainital district administration has decided to resume the drive from Saturday.
Stressing the need to strictly remove encroachments from the public places in the lake city, Akshat Gupta, District Magistrate, Nainital, has asked the officials concerned of the district civic body and the lake Development Authority, Nainital to remove the encroachment by Monday.
Gupta also asked the officials concerned to film the drive. Besides, the drive will be overseen by a magistrate and police and any laxity on part of the officials concerned will be taken seriously, the District Magistrate Nainital asserted.
The drive has been ordered by the High Court, informed the officials concerned of the Nainital district administration.
But the fact is that despite being issued notices to shift voluntarily, the encroachers have been quite indifferent, added the officials. The administration has asked the officials concerned to issue notices to those who have been identified as encroachers in public places.
Besides, taking a serious note of encroachment happening on the Mall Road and Ayar Pata, the administration has asked the officials concerned to remove them.
The administration has also appealed to the people of the lake city, particularly those who have encroached upon public places, to cooperate with them in freeing the lake city from the menace of encroachment.
