A few days after assuming charge as the Additional Director General of Police -ADGP- (law and order) for the fifth time, senior IPS Ram Singh Meena while spelling out his priorities said on Friday that his focus for the time being would be to ensure peaceful conduct of the upcoming assembly election. Besides, he would go all-out to check crimes and maintain law and order in the State, he said.
“The district police officers have been directed to identity the sensitive and ultra- sensitive places from the standpoint of the election and to act accordingly,” he said.
Meena said that sensitivity of polling booths during election depends on various factors like crime graph, communal tensions, political turmoil and character of the candidates. The district police heads have been directed to try all means to keep things under control as far as the sensitive and ultra- sensitive polling booths are concerned, he said, adding that police must act in accordance with the records of the past elections.
Stressing on the security in the inter-state border areas of the state, Meena said that police would intensify vigil with the additional deployment of law-enforcing forces. “Besides, we would launch intensive vehicle checking drives at the places marked as vulnerable from the law and order point of view,” he said.
Meena further said that police officers have been directed to prepare data on polling centres, deployment of police forcesand demand of more police forces so that things can be sorted out methodically.
“We would embark on a drive against the criminals who are presently fugitives across the State. Besides, we would be alert at the places known as communally vulnerable,” ADGP- (law and order) said.
In order to control crimes and maintain law and order, senior police officers in the districts would form teams. “Caution would be maintained in the busy market areas and other sensitive places too,” he added.
The district police officers would launch vehicle checking drives at bus stops, ISBT, railway station and the important buildings housing government offices. “The police station officers would conduct verification drives in hotels, other commercial establishments and residences in various localities to stop undesirable elements from staying in their jurisdiction. The police officers have been directed to ensure fool-proof security at markets, bus stands, railway stations, cinemas and the like,” he added.
