The Indian Muslim Welfare and Educational Mission has blamed the successive Governments of Uttarakhand for ignoring Muslims. Addressing newsmen here on Thursday the President of the mission, Hazi Nassimuddin warned the Congress Government headed by Harish Rawat that continued ignorance of Muslims in the State could prove costly to the Congress party in the next assembly elections.
He cited the examples of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Assam and Kerala where the Congress was at receiving end of the anger of Muslims. Nassimuddin said that the post of President Madarsa Board is vacant for a long time similarly the positions in Urdu Academy are not filled. He said that the position of state Waqf Board is also vacant and the Muslims are not being given proper representation in the government corporations and boards. The President of the mission said that the Muslims should be given reservation under a separate quota in Uttarakhand and a 10 percent reservation should be provided to backward castes of Muslims. He demanded that the vacant posts of Urdu teachers in government schools and Urdu translators should be immediately filled. The mission also demanded that Muslim Musafirkhanas should be opened in the districts of Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital where substantial population of Muslims resides. Nassimuddin said that the Muslim community of state would be forced to hit the path of agitation if its genuine demands are not accepted.
