Published on:

Two horrific murders within a span of four days by unidentified persons in the city and fear of presence of notorious Kachcha Baniyan gang especially in suburban areas have sent shockwaves in the State capital.

People are now wondering how safe women and senior citizens are in the city and suburban areas. However, police outrightly rejected presence of Kachcha Baniyan gang and said rumours were being spread about the presence of such gangs in Dehradun. The two recent murders are being investigated and police hope to nab the culprits soon. It may to be mentioned here that the Dehradun Police have still not been able to ascertain the motive behind these two murders.

Kargi resident Jaya Nautiyal said, “After learning of two brutal murders of women recently, I am feeling unsafe. These women were murdered in broad daylight and culprits escaped easily. I also hear about the presence of Kachcha Baniyan gang in my locality.” Raipur resident Ashok said, “These two incidents have shocked the people. In my locality, there are no street lights and criminals can easily escape from the scene after committing crime.” From mid August, some people, especially in rural and suburban areas have spending sleepless nights in fear of notorious ‘Kachcha Baniyan’ gang.

SP City Jagdish Chandra said that several police teams including Special Operation Group were formed to solve these two murders. Police have yet to find any clue in the cases but all murder cases have been solved in the past and the recent cases will also be solved soon, he said. People should not panic as Kachcha Baniyan gang is not active in Dehradun, he added.
