Accusing the jail administration of subjecting him physical and mental torture, the main accused of Babbal murder case Jitendra Rawat, alias Jitti has been continuing with hunger strike, demanding action against the jail administration at Doon Hospital where he  is being kept now.

He was sent to the Doon Hospital last week after the jail administration got alarmed over his failing health due to continuing hunger strike going on since November 11.

He said that he had been forced to resort to indefinite hunger strike following his alleged ill-treatment in the hands of the jail officials. He said he had been continuing with the hunger strike even after being sent to the hospital. “I would continue till justice is done to me,” he said on Monday. Notably, Babbal was murdered around four years ago at Nehru Colony in Dehradun.

Jail sources said that Jitendra had wanted to get shifted to another jail, hoping that he would enjoy extra facilities there. “An accused of a murder case, we are keeping him under close observation. He along with other inmates is living in a barrack. Other inmates are facing problem as he insists on keeping the fan on in the winter months,” a jail official said.

Dehradun Suddhowala jail superintendent NS Gwal said that the hard-core has been languishing in the jail for the past one year.

“As he continued with the hunger strike we sent him to Doon Hospital five days ago. We are providing him with the facilities he deserves as per the jail manuals,” he added.
