Municipal apathy: Pauri turns into a huge garbage dump

Published on:

The level of civic sanitation in Pauri has continued to deteriorate with the municipality not lifting garbage piled up in various localities of the town. The locals complain that the obstinate and indifferent attitude of the municipal board chairman has resulted in Pauri town being littered with garbage which has been festering for nearly one year.

After being elected to the post of the Pauri municipal board chairman, Yashpal Benam, had promised the public during his oath taking function last year in May that the problem of garbage being dumped in the different places will be resolved within a fortnight. About 11 months have passed since the municipal board chairman promised a solution to this problem but the proper dumping and disposal of garbage has not yet been ensured.

It will be recalled that in March this year, Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission chairman Justice Vijendra Jain, taking suo moto cognisance of public complaints about deteriorating sanitation in Pauri, Jain had ordered the issuance of a notice to Pauri municipal council Pauri for not taking proper steps for disposal of garbage and waste management in the area under its jurisdiction. However the municipal authorities have not yet facilitated the desired garbage disposal system and maintenance of civic sanitation.
