Rajya Sabha member from Uttarakhand Manorama Dobriyal Sharma of the Congress has announced that she has adopted the lambagad Kushrani village in Chamoli district and work to facilitate the desired level of development in the village.
She said this while addressing the media in Dehradun for the first time after being elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha recently. She said that the lambagad Kushrani village in the Gairsain block is extremely backward and lacks facilities like roads, medical treatment and school. “In 2007 when I had toured the State, I had also visited this village and had promised the villagers that I would do something for them. By adopting this village, I will work to fulfill my promise by ensuring effective execution of developmental works in the village. I will also attempt to do something for the other villages in the State that have been deprived of development,” she said.
On being asked about her experience in the Rajya Sabha, she said that she had raised the Kailash Mansarovar issue in the Rajya Sabha stressing that the pilgrimage route through Uttarakhand was historically important.
Many people here depend on this pilgrimage for income so instead of making an alternate route to Kailash Mansarovar, the Central Government should have worked to improve the condition of the route from Uttarakhand, said the MP. She also said that she would also raise issues related to division of assets between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh and attempt to facilitate a conclusion in the interests of Uttarakhand.
Replying to a query, Sharma accused BJP MPs of trying to disturb communal harmony in the state. She alleged that some BJP MPs were repeatedly making statements that were detrimental to the communal harmony in the nation.
