As part of the awareness campaign being held at various schools and colleges on the fourth day of the road safety week in Dehradun and other parts of the State, the mother traffic force involving the mothers of the students of schools was formed on Thursday. Earlier in the day, the police officers of the traffic directorate visited Brooklyn School in the city and the first unit of the mother traffic force was formed there. It is learnt that the mothers of 43 students of the school secured the membership of the unit and they were later given traffic awareness related booklets and magnetic stickers. They were also informed about the traffic rules on the occasion.
Traffic directorate DIG Kewal Khurana said that the objective of forming mother traffic force was to create awareness about traffic rules and road safety among the mothers of the school students so as to motivate them to encourage their wards to follow traffic rules while on the roads. “Such mothers would also encourage other family members to abide by the traffic rules. Besides, the ladies who have become members of the force would motivate other mothers of the students studying in the same school to inculcate respect for the traffic rules in their children,” he said.
He further said that the children would thus turn out to be responsible citizens of the country if they learn to abide by the traffic rules while on the roads, Khurana said. Others present on the occasion were principal Brooklyn School Manju Grover, coordinator Ashama Chandel and teacher Shobha Sibal among others.
On the direction of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti, awareness campaign on traffic rules and road safety was held at schools and colleges located within several police stations limits of the district on Thursday.
