More than 50,000 posts are lying vacant in various governmental and semi-governmental departments and institutions in Uttarakhand. The State Government recently commemorated completion of its 100 days in office but has remained apathetic to the thousands of posts in various categories lying vacant in such departments and institutions, said the Jan Sangharsh Morcha head Raghunath Singh Negi.
Addressing the media here on Friday, Negi said, “According to information collected from various sources more than 50,000 posts in different categories are lying vacant in government and semi-governmental bodies. More than 14,500 posts are lying vacant in the education department while 3061 posts are lying vacant in revenue department, more than 1534 posts are vacant in irrigation department, 384 plus posts are vacant in food supply, 450 are vacant in secretariat administration department, 350 in social welfare department, more than 687 are vacant in Public Works Department, 1240 in home (police), 219 in industrial development department, more than 80 in transport, 250 in cooperative, 647 in power transmission and thousands of posts in the animal husbandry, agriculture, finance, Vidhan Sabha, tourism, forest, power and other departments. It is very disappointing to note that the state government is celebrating the completion of 100 days in office whereas there is nothing to show for its achievements. On top of this, the unemployed and farmers are suffering due to the government. The Bharatiya Janata Party is in government in the state because of the youth who had been promised jobs by it in the past but the unemployed are still languishing without employment,” said the JSM chief.
Negi went on to stress that the state government should open the way for permanent appointments to permanent posts lying vacant and use outsourcing and other procedures to make appointments to the temporary posts lying vacant. He said, “Uttarakhand has become the first state which has formed a commission for mitigating migration and a committee for recruitment. If the state government doesn’t start the procedure of appointments to vacant posts for providing employment to the youth, the JSM will undertake an agitation and needed even approach the court of justice,” added Negi.
