With the real winter having arrived in the State after thundershower and snowfall in several places across Uttarakhand on Saturday, the Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast more rain or hail in some parts of the State, including Dehradun, on Monday. It might snow in the high-altitude places too on the day, say the State Meteorological Centre in the weather release issued on Sunday. Meanwhile, Saturday’s thundershower has helped the mercury plummet by several notches, bringing the feel of winter in Dehradun.
The maximum temperature dipped by at least four notches which paved the way for the long-awaited winter a few days ahead of Diwali.
As per the weather forecast, hail is likely to lash some parts of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts for the next 24 hours from Sunday. The mercury would further dip if it rains again, said the weather officers.
With the winter chill setting in slowly, the people of Dehradun have been found wearing heavy woollens on Sunday particularly after the dusk fell. “The rain has brought about the real winter we were waiting for some days. We hope it would now free us from the dengue menace and others which continued to afflict us because of the refusal of the mercury to come down. We hope more rain would occur in the coming days and bring about the real winter chill,” said a senior citizen living in Dalanwala.
On Sunday, the minimum temperature recorded in the city 13.6 degree Celsius, one notch above the normal, and the maximum temperature settled at 27.5 degree Celsius-one notch above the normal. At Mukteshwar, the minimum temperature settled at 2.8 degree Celsius, four notches below the normal, and the maximum at 14.2 degree Celsius, four below the normal. The minimum was 6 degree Celsius at New Tehri and the maximum was 16.8 degree Celsius.
