The  Centre thrusting the Indian economy going in the ‘cashless’ direction, post note ban drive, number of cyber crimes is likely  to spiral in the state along with the rest of the country, apprehend the State Task Force senior officials. “Keeping this possibility in view, we are further strengthening the infrastructure of the cyber crime police station, Uttarakhand set up in Dehradun. Manpower would be raised too,” said SSP, STF P Renuka Devi who is also in charge of state cyber crime police station.

Renuka said that three inspectors and three sub-inspectors have been deputed at CCPS. A proposal has been sent to police headquarters for filling up the three vacant posts of the sub-inspectors. “In the recent past, an FIR has been registered at CCPS related to illegal online bank transaction amounting to Rs  1.5 lakh that occurred in Haridwar district and the investigation is on,” she informed.

“Earlier, FIRs were not being lodged in CCPS. We used to give technical support to the police stations across the state after FIR was lodged there.

Now, things have changed following the high court order. We are receiving FIRs directly. Cases of CCPS are being put before special court (judicial magistrate-II). Besides, we are better equipped now. CCPS has its own Mall Khana (store) to store cases and there is a cell also to keep the accused before he is presented in the court,” Renuka said.
