Alleging apathetic stance of the Raj Bhawan towards cases related to public interest and corruption in the State, the Jan Sangharsh Morcha staged a demonstration and submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that the present Governor be relieved of his position.
Protesters led by Jan Sangharsh Morcha head and former vice chairman of the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, Raghunath Singh Negi staged a demonstration at the Tehsil in Vikasnagar on Tuesday. Staging a gherao at the Tehsil, the protesters submitted to the Vikasnagar sub divisional magistrate Hari Giri, a memorandum addressed to PM Narendra Modi.
Speaking on the occasion, Negi averred that the Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul had been apathetic towards issues related to public interest and corruption in the State. Negi said, “It is an important noteworthy fact that even in the past before the imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand, the Jan Sangharsh Morcha had approached the authorities and requested necessary action in major corruption allegations including illegal mining business amounting to about `4,000 crore in the State. We had also raised other important issues including that of the retired employees not being provided pension allowance by the State Government despite Supreme Court directions and the `280 crore revenue loss caused by a motor company in connivance with State officials. We have been demanding action in these important cases but it appeared as if the Raj Bhawan was not concerned with these issues. This made it appear as if there was a passive approval of the Raj Bhawan in these cases.”
“The Jan Sangharsh Morcha consistently demanded that action be taken in these cases but the Raj Bhawan remained limited to cultural programmes. During the past couple of years, the Government officials and politicians were looting the State and people kept on calling for help the Raj Bhawan limited its role to that of a mute spectator. This apathy resulted in the present constitutional crisis in the State while also taking the future of the State towards uncertainty mainly due to the silence of the Raj Bhawan,” alleged Negi.
He further warned that if necessary action is not taken against apathy towards State-interest issues and corruption, the Jan Sangharsh Morcha “would be forced to take self-injurious action starting with a protest fast unto death” for which the authorities concerned will be responsible.
