Uttrakhand is most likely to have a normal monsoon this year, as per the forecast of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) . It is also indicated in the report that the State is unlikely to face any rain-driven calamity during this monsoon. There is very little possibility of weather deviation to trigger anything serious, the forecast stated.
The monsoon is predicted ‘normal’ when the long period average (lPA) rainfall is recorded around 100 percent. Four percent lower or higher are also considered as normal. The figure reaching over 106 percent is categorised as excess rain while the figure dipping to lower than 99 percent is termed as a deficient monsoon.
Speaking about it, Bikram Singh, director of the State meteorological Centre, said, “It is difficult for us to predict the exact overall condition of the monsoon in the State. The monsoon season generally starts from June and remains till the end of August. “The report which was given to us by the IMD stated that the lPA recorded was between 99 per cent and 100 per cent which is normal so far. For the rest of the season, possibility of slight deviation in some specific areas is not ruled out. However, it is considered part of the monsoon season”
