The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are expected to take part in the Commander’s conference at Indian Military Academy (IMA) on January 21. The IMA officials are tight lipped about the conference and expected arrival of PM but the district administration has received a message that Modi could visit Dehradun. Apart from the PM, defence minister and NSA the conference could be attended by three service chiefs and corps commanders of Indian Army. The eastern army Commander lt General Pravin Bakshi whose seniority was overlooked by the Union Government during the appointment of the new army chief would also be present in the conference.
It is learnt that the brainstorming sessions would be held on mountain corps on China border, condition on line of Control (lOC), deployment of army and para military in Jammu and Kashmir, reaction of army on terrorist activities and minimizing operational casualties. Apart from them the issues of ex servicemen and videos of armed forces personnel which are getting viral these days are expected to be discussed.
It is worth mentioning that the Commander's conference is being held for the first time in the IMA Dehradun. Though their is still no official confirmation about the Conference but it is sure to catch attention of people and political parties as Uttarakhand is home state of new Army chief General Bipin Rawat and the state is one of an election bound state which has a sizeable population of army forces veterans.
The District Magistrate of Dehradun, Ravi Nath Raman told The Pioneer that the administration has tentative information about arrival of Prime Minister but there is no official confirmation yet. He added that the administration is also not aware about the expected place of the prime minister’s visit.
