Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken on Saturday launched an scathing attack on the Narendra Modi Government over demonetisation drive. Talking to the mediapersons in Dehradun on Saturday, Maken said that the Centre had leaked things to the BJP leaders before the drive was undertaken to help them deposit enormous amount of unaccounted money.
“We have evidence that the party’s Bengal and Bihar units have deposited huge amounts of money a few days before the PM announced the recall of the higher currencies. It seems that the BJP leaders were well aware of what was coming up. The cash thus deposited in September and October was usually huge compared to the previous years. It was at least six percent more. We demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe thoroughly into the serious allegation now in the air. We would continue demanding it till the adamant Centre concedes it,” he said.
He also said the Congress would issue a White Paper on the whole gamut of the drive, pinpointing the flaws inherent in it and the conspiracy of selective leaks that is emerging out. “The people would vent anger through the Aakrosh Rally to be staged across the country on Monday,” he said.
“The queer scenario that is unfolding is that the people despite having money in their bank accounts are running from pillar to post to manage a small amounts to make ends meet. The country is the loser as the people are perforce queuing up in snaking lines to deposit or withdraw from the banks and the ATMs. It is a colossal wastage of time and energy,” Maken said.
He slammed the Centre for unleashing IT officials to run loose, saying that they are crippling the banking system. “Things are so scary that even the banks are being forced to put up no- money boards. The people are experiencing this for the first time in India. Nowhere in India this has happened ever,” the Congress leader said.
“As far as the estimated black money is concerned it was a mere `14.3 lakh crore in circulation in the denomination of `500 and `1000 notes. The amount of the counterfeit currencies was just `400 crore. To eliminate them, there was no pressing need to go for such a measure of gigantic magnitude that would result in a slump in GDP and loss of jobs for millions. The farmers are facing the maximum heat. They are unable to sow Rabbi crops due to cash crunch,” he said.
