Mobile users getting calls from 'Pak agents'

Some mobile phone users have registered their complaints in the Dehradun Cyber Security Cell that they have been receiving unwanted phone calls and messages allegedly from Pakistani agents for the past many days.

Callers told the mobile phone users to open bank accounts through their agents in the State Bank of India, Hyderabad, and Rs5,000 would be transferred to their bank accounts, said Dehradun Cyber Security Cell in charge Shikha Rana while talking to The Pioneer.

Rana said that according to the complainants, they were told that they would receive Rs5,000 from the agents of the caller on opening bank accounts. Some complainants said that they received SMS informing them that they had won a luck draw. One SMS says, “Your mobile number has won Rs1.6 crore. To claim this winning prize, send your name, address, phone number, age, occupation.”

When Rana tried to contact the numbers from which the messages had been received, the call could not be made. The digits of mobile phone number indicate that agents had called from a foreign land. Following this, she directed the complainants to ignore the agents' instructions.

These agents are part of international gangs and would withdraw money from their bank account if account numbers are provided to them. Rana advised that people should avoid entertaining such calls.

Recently, Haridwar Police had arrested an Indian national acting as a Pakistani agent and recovered 132 ATM cards of different banks, four mobile phones and dozens of SIM cards and 148 pages document related to different banks' account, scanned copy of ATMs, which were supposed to be sent through internet to Pakistan from him.

During interrogation, it was revealed that mobile numbers of Indian citizens were searched through internet by the employees of call centres established in Pakistan and other countries. The agents used to deposit processing fee in fake bank accounts opened by his agents.
