MlA Shaila threatens to resign, demands help for locals

Kedarnath MlA Shaila Rani Rawat threatened to resign if the State Government continued to ignore the woes being faced by the locals devastated by the heavy rains, flood and landslides experienced in her constituency. Congress State in-charge Ambika Soni held talks with party MlAs and MPs in Dehradun to gauge their opinions and hear out their complaints related to the disaster.

Though local Congress leaders denied that Rawat had created a scene, the media asked the Kedarnath MlA herself about her position when she was standing behind Soni, CM Vijay Bahuguna and Union Minister Jairam Ramesh at a Press conference.

She said that she had sat on protest at the Secretariat to demand effective measures in Kedarnath constituency and would do so again and even resign if necessary measures are not taken as assured by the CM.

She said that though the stranded tourists were evacuated, the Government initially ignored the locals. Rawat has called for use of latest technology in development works to mitigate the impacts of disaster.

It should be mentioned here that the MlA had faced angry locals who not only questioned her role but in some cases also reportedly pelted stones at here when she went to visit the affected areas in her constituency. The locals are dissatisfied with Government efforts.
