Protesting against the district administration not taking any action against the police officer who had manhandled a tourist on Sunday night during Mussoorie Winterline Carnival, Mussoorie MlA Ganesh Joshi has resigned from the post of vice president of Winterline Carnival committee on Monday.
Joshi also met the State Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena and submitted a memorandum, demanding suspension of the police officer. Expressing angst over the unseemly incident, the MlA said he could not continue in the committee. He submitted his resignation to the committee chairman/district magistrate, Dehradun.
In his press release, Joshi said what had happened on December 27 night at the carnival was a slur on the fair face of the State. More painfully, DM Chandresh Kumar and SDM who were present did not take things seriously. He said this would deal a crippling blow to the tourism prospects of the State. Over and above everything, this has inflicted a wound on the psyche of the State’s people. This is an irony that while the State Government is going out its way to promote tourism, its police are running amok on the tourists, he said.
He said the police should bare fangs on the criminals but not on the innocents. He demanded ADGP to terminate service of the concerned policeman immediately.
