Taking cognizance of The Pioneer report, dated July 24, that the MKP (PG) College had not implemented caste-based reservation policy in the merit list for admissions to various degree courses, which was released on Monday, the college Principal, Dr Indu Singh, withdrew the first merit list on Saturday and decided to release a revised list soon.
The Pioneer on July 24 had exclusively reported that the MKP (PG) College on July 21 had declared merit list for admission in various degree courses without following the Government's reservation policy. In the merit list, not a single SC/ST/OBCs student was included in the general category list in spite of scoring more than the cut off for general category, which is violation of the reservation policy framed by the State and Central Governments.
In BSc, the cut off for OBC category has exceeded the general category cut off which has deprived OBC students scoring less from deriving the benefit of reservation. Despite this, the college principal Dr Indu Singh on Thursday had claimed that college followed caste based reservation policy in the merit list for admissions.
It should be mentioned here that under caste based reservation policy, if SC/ST/OBCs secure more than cut off for general category, they will be included in general category list. Moreover, Singh on Saturday realised the fact and said that there were some mistakes in the released merit list so the college would soon release revised list for admission. The admission process in the college has been put on hold for next few days.
Moreover, dozens of students led by former DBS (PG) College students’ union leader Kamlesh Bhatt met the college principal Singh on Saturday and submitted a memorandum demanding implementation of caste based reservation policy in the merit list for admissions in various degree courses in the college.
The protesters reached the college campus and shouted slogans against the college administration. Bhatt said that the college should follow caste based reservation policy in admissions and if they fail to do so then the students will intensify their protest in the college. Among those present on the occasion were Narendra, Devendra, Pradeep, Pankaj, Ganesh, Anurag, Pradeep among others.
