Politics over appointment of Principal in MKP (PG) College has hampered the admission process in different Bachelor and Post Graduation degree courses on the second day of the strike called by the college non-teaching employees union. If union president HS Rana is to be believed, college teaching staff has also supported the protest of the staff members who haven’t received their salaries for the past two months.
However, HNB Garhwal Central University Vice Chancellor Prof SK Singh said that admission process has not been started in any colleges yet. The management committee’s recommendation for the termination of former MKP College principal has been rejected and this decision will not be withdrawn.
To collect admission forms before getting themselves admitted in different degree courses, many students reached the college but returned back empty handed as sale of prospectus which was started a week ago has been disrupted due to the strike.
Rana claimed that admission process in the college has been affected adversely in the last two days as non-teaching staff did not join the office in demand of release of their salaries. Their association is being supported by college teaching staff and other college non-teaching staff and Uttarakhand college non-teaching staff union. Rajpur Road MlA Raj Kumar visited the protest site on Wednesday to express support while Uttarakhand PCC vice president Suryakant Dhasmana did so on Thursday. According to him, Dhasmana assured to arrange their meeting with CM Vijay Bahuguna for redressal of their grievances. Rana said that they will intensify their protest unless their demand is met.
MKP College society general secretary Jitendra Negi said that non-teaching staff is making a mistake by taking support from politicians. The union should talk to the management for redressal of their grievances. According to him, Garhwal Central University VC had earlier disapproved the termination of former principal Indu Singh and management has written a letter to the VC for the reconsideration of his decision as per UP State Universities Act 1973. He reiterated the higher education directorate has not job stopping the release of salaries of college staff.
The management committee had passed a resolution and recommended to the University VC that the then college principal Indu Singh be terminated for her involvement in financial irregularities.
