The demand of the MKP (PG) College Non-Teaching Staff Union for reinstatement of former MKP (PG) College principal Indu Singh and dissolution of the existing college management committee has raised questions about the motive behind their protests.
The college management committee had passed a resolution and recommended to the HNB Garhwal University VC that then college principal Indu Singh be terminated for her involvement in financial irregularities.
To pressurise the college management to meet their demands, the college non-teaching staff continued their protest for the fifth day on Sunday.
The union president HS Rana alleged that they are ready to talk to the management regarding redressal of their grievances, but the management committee does not take their demands seriously.
Earlier, the protesters were saying that they were protesting to demand payment of their two month's pending salary, but on Sunday they said that the management should reappoint Indu Singh as college principal.
The Management committee should also be dissolved. Though the protesters claimed that college teaching staff had also supported their protest in writing, not a single teaching staff has turned up so far at the protest site.
MKP (PG) College society general secretary Jitendra Negi said that the management committee is ready to talk to the non-teaching staff and they are making a mistake by taking support from politicians.
According to him, Garhwal Central University VC had earlier disapproved the termination of former principal Indu Singh and management has written again a letter to the VC for the reconsideration of his decision as per UP State Universities Act 1973.
Observers said that instead of demanding their salaries, now the protesters are demanding reappointment of college ex-principal Indu Singh and dissolution of the management committee. This has raised a new question as to whether their protests have been motivated by some persons.
