Panic gripped Red Cross hospital area of the Shivaji Nagar in the State capital after miscreants opened fire at two persons during Youth Congress election at the State Congress headquarters on Sunday.

According to the police, when the victims were standing near the Red Cross hospital, a car arrived near the spot and 3-4 persons sitting in it opened fire injuring two persons and escaped from the spot. Victims who suffered minor bullet injuries were rushed to JP hospital and were later discharged after treatment. Heavy police force was deployed in the area after the firing. Panic prevailed in the area. The injured victims were identified as Pankaj Sharma and Shubham Pateria. Pankaj Sharma was hit in his head while Shubham was hit in his hand. The incident occurred after the completion of the voting when the counting of votes was under process and the victims were waiting for the declaration of the results.

Earlier, violent clashes were witnessed during the day between two groups on the issue of ‘fake voting ‘. One of the group members alleged that the other group was casting fake votes. Although it was not clear that the attack was a reaction to the clashes between two groups which occurred earlier during the day as both Pankaj and Shubham were present during the earlier clash but it could not be confirmed that the two were involved in earlier clash and were attacked in retaliation to the clash. Pankaj Sharma and Shubham Pateria are believed to be supporters of Shivam Tiwari group of Arif Akeel camp.
