The State Forest and Wildlife Minister Harak Singh Rawat will unveil the foundation for construction of the Laldhang-Chillarkhal road on December 16. The construction of this road is expected to drastically cut the distance between Garhwal and Kumaon regions of the State.
Rawat said that the State Government is taking effective steps to facilitate easing of the flow of traffic in the State. He said that so far, those travelling by road from Garhwal region to Kumaon region have to pass through Bijnor district of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. After being elected the MLA from Kotdwar and being made the State’s Forest and Wildlife Minister, he has been undertaking efforts for opening the Haridwar to Laldhang-Chillarkhal motor road for the general public.
The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has also expressed his consent for the opening of this motor road. With the construction of this route, the distance of Kotdwar from Haridwar will decrease by 20 kilometres and the traffic within the State will also ease.
Before Independence, the road between Ramnagar and Haridwar known as Kandi Road was used by people but later this route was closed due to forest laws as it passes through prime tiger habitat. However, the Forest and Wildlife Minister facilitated overcoming of the obstacles to devise the way for the construction of this route. On December 16, he will unveil the foundation of Laldhang-Chillarkhal route, as well as the bridges on this route.
The construction of this route and bridges will be completed before the onset of the rainy season. The Minister’s officer on special duty (OSD) Vinod Rawat along with the departmental officers visited the entire stretch of the route and finalised the foundation stone laying programme to be held on December 16.
