Urban Development Minister Pritam Singh Panwar has said that if the Doon Valley Waste Management company does not function as per the conditions in its contract with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun, FIR will be lodged against the company official responsible. He said that the dumping of garbage at the municipal trenching ground had resumed on Tuesday.
The DVWM had stopped dumping garbage in the trenching ground due to the approach road to this site being blocked by garbage and other material. Due to this, for about a week the trash dumped in garbage containers placed by the MCD continued to pile and various spots in public places turned into open-air dumping sites.
The level of civic sanitation in the State Capital deteriorated considerably while the DVWM and MCD shifted the task of clearing the path onto each other. Urban Development minister Pritam Singh Panwar said that about a week ago he had directed MCD officials to ensure that sanitation is maintained in the city.
“The company has now resumed dumping garbage in the trenching ground. The DVWM officials also informed me about some of the problems they are facing in the execution of their task. I directed the MCD officials to resolve these problems and even after that if the DVWM fails to work as per the conditions in the contract, I have directed the corporation officials to lodge FIR against the official concerned,” he said.
Meanwhile, many sites in Dehradun presented sights of garbage littered on the roadside in scattered heaps of garbage posing a public health risk. According to the minister, action will be taken against the officials responsible in the future if the garbage collection and disposal work is not executed properly. It now remains to be seen as to whether such disagreements between the MCD and DVWM will be allowed to affect the level of sanitation in the future.
