Following the four-month State-wide ban on mining activities ordered by the High Court of Uttarakhand, the lalkuan MlA Navin Dumka met Trivendra Singh Rawat regarding the livelihood issue resulting from this development. Meeting the Chief Minister in his office in the provisional State Capital Dehradun, the MlA said that since mining is a means of livelihood in the lalkuan constituency, the State Government should soon advocate its position in the Supreme Court to get the mining activities resumed in the State. In addition to this, the MlA also met the State Forest Minister Harak Singh Rawat, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant and the Bharatiya Janata Party State president Ajay Bhatt, demanding swift action on this issue.
Meeting the Chief Minister along with a delegation from the lalkuan assembly constituency, the MlA informed Rawat that in the past the approval for mining had been received from the Central Government only after completing proper scientific inquiry and environmental testing at Gaula and Nandhaur rivers. Hence, the point of these and other similar rivers need to be raised immediately at the competent level so that the interests of the local people are not affected detrimentally.
The Chief Minister is reported to have assured the MlA that the State will file an appeal in the Supreme Court regarding the order of the High Court of Uttarakhand. After the meeting with the Chief Minister the MlA along with his delegation of local businessmen involved in mining and Gram Pradhans, met the State Forest Minister Harak Singh Rawat, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant and BJP State chief Ajay Bhatt informing them about the detrimental effects of the decision in lalkuan.
