In order to bring uniformity in university convocation dress, State Minister for Higher Education Dhan Singh Rawat presided over a meeting with the State based university vice chancellors, registrars and officials at the secretariat here on Monday. The Minister discussed this issue in detail with university representatives. Rawat said that new attire based on Indian and Uttarakhand culture should be finalised for convocations. The State Government is considering it as State Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has given necessary instructions regarding this issue, he said, adding that various universities have decided new attire for the convocation. The convocation attire designed by Graphic Era University seemed to be appropriate, he opined.

On the occasion, dress design prepared by GEU was displayed before the university representatives and education department officers. All the representatives were asked for their suggestions regarding the same. It was suggested that in the attire, the headgear should be changed into one traditionally worn in Uttarakhand. The minister asked the GEI representative Jyoti Chhabra to ensure that those suggestions given by the various university representatives and government department officers should be incorporated in design of the dress.

The cap should be of tradional Uttarakhandi style, he said adding that representations of the State bird Monal and State flower Brahmkamal should be included in the new attire being designed for convocations. The amended design should be submitted within three days so that final approval can be received from state governor and chief minister. The minister assured that the new attire for convocations would be prepared within 10 days. Such attire would be used in the convocation slated to be held at a medical university later this month, he added. The additional chief secretary Ranveer Singh and representatives of various universities along with officials concerned were present in the meeting.
