Not satisfied with the Union Government’s proposal on ‘One Rank, One Pension’ (OROP) scheme, the ex-servicemen of the State have decided to continue their agitation. The office bearers of the United Front of Ex Servicemen of Uttarakhand met here on Monday and deliberated on the Government proposals on OROP.
The President of association Major General Chander Nandwani (Rtd) said that it was decided that till the receipt of draft of Government on OROP which fulfills all the conditions, the agitation would continue. He said that the veterans would organise a Candle march on September 12 to express their anguish on OROP. Brigadier R S Rawat (Rtd) said that the Government proposals on OROP are nothing but eyewash. He said that the decision of taking average of difference of pension of highest and lowest pension of same rank personnel serving in different times is actually against the basic principal of OROP as it implies that pension of all those who hold same rank and have equal years of service is same, irrespective of the year when one retires.
The spokesperson of the association, Colonel P l Parashar (Rtd.) said that the ex-servicemen of the state would be guided by the national executive decision on the issue. He however added that there is a feeling among the veterans that they should wait for the actual Government order before taking a final decision on future course of action on agitation for OROP.
