Uttarakhand Meteorological Department has forecast improvement in weather from Friday.

One more spell of western disturbance is, however, expected from April 20. Higher reaches of the State may receive light rainfall with snow while light rain/thunder shower may occur at isolated places in the rest of Uttarakhand.

The State had received 197 mm rainfall in March while 55 mm in April, 1982.

In 2015, Uttarakhand received 181 mm rainfall in March and above 57 mm in April till date, said Uttarakhand Met director Anand Sharma on Thursday.

The Met office has forecast cloudy sky in the plains while rain/snow at isolated places, especially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand.

Dehradun received light rainfall in the morning hours. The sky remained overcast till the afternoon. Some Dehradun residents had to ferret out woolens already tucked in the cupboards with the winter supposedly having ended.

Sharma said light rainfall was reported in various parts of the state on Thursday.

Following this, the maximum temperature dipped by four notches on Thursday as compared to Wednesday. He said western disturbances had brought about these rains.

In Dehradun, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 26.4°C and 17.1°C respectively on Thursday.

The weather forecast for Dehradun on Thursday is generally cloudy sky. Thunder cloud development may occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 28°C Celsius and 16°C Celsius respectively on Friday in Dehradun, it is learnt.

Sharma said farmers suffered a lot, following unseasonal rains reported from various parts of the state. Rain occurred when farmers were about to harvesting Rabi and other crops, he added.

Officials pulled up for failing to submit report on rain-hit farmers

Dehradun: Dehradun district magistrate Ravinath Raman pulled up the sub-divisional magistrates for failing to submit reports on the quantum of losses incurred by the farmers due to crop damage following the recent spell of unseasonal rain.

To give compensation to the farmers affected due to crop damage, DM Raman held a meeting with the sub-divisional magistrates and discussed things with the SDMs.

He directed the SDMs to evaluate the damages received by the farmers by sending lekhpal or patwari to the hit areas and submit the report within three days so that farmers could be compensated on time.

Action will be taken against the officials if they fail to submit such report on time, he warned.

Following the direction of Central Government and the State Government, all the farmers should be given compensation cheques by April 30, 2015, he added.
