Met dept asks admin to take steps in view of extremely heavy rain warning

The state meteorological department asked the administration to take adequate steps in view of its very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall warning for some places of the state on July 22. In a release the department issued on Saturday said that while there might be heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places across the state there is possibility of extremely heavy rain at isolates places in Uttarakhand on Sunday. The department asked the state administration and the district administrations to take adequate steps in advance to mitigate the rain-spawned damages or hardships the people might face in case it rains with the intensity as forecast.

In Dehradun too, few spells of rain or thundershowers might lash some places on Sunday as per the Met officers.   Besides, there is a warning of heavy shower for some places in the district.

With the weathermen warning of heavy shower, the people of the city, particularly those living on the banks of the rivers like Rispana and Bindal,  said that they are scared of the possibility of another flash flood in the rivers as happened a few days ago  which claimed lives and damaged houses. “The administration has hardly done anything since the last flash flood to ensure that we are safe in case the same recurs. If it starts raining in the night with the intensity as forecast by the weather department we would have to stay sleepless lest the water gets into our home,” said an elderly woman living near Rispana river in the city.
