Mental tension evokes a negative reaction on the minds of students and pushes them into the lap of substance abuse, said Director Pari foundation and psychologist, Dr Sona Kaushal Gupta while addressing students of SGRR technology college on Wednesday.

She said that with a strong will power and help of parents students can get over this dark phase of life. She explained that under stress due to variety of factors like unable to cope up with studies, peer pressure and in absence of proper counseling the youngsters take refuge in alcohol and drugs. Dr Gupta highlighted the importance of dialogue between the students and parents and said that it can solve many problems. She also added that good friends are important to tide over this phase successfully. She also answered the queries of the students who asked about the ways to remain away from stress and how to keep away from substance abuse and peer pressure in academic life. More than 400 students of the college participated in the programme.

At the end of the programme the students took pledge to remain away from substance abuse. The lecture series is being organised under joint aegis of Govt Doon medical college, Pari Foundation and Uttarakhand Technical University.
