The members of Uttarakhand Junior High School Teachers Union, who protested at the Secretariat, have called off their strike after receiving assurance from the Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar on Tuesday.

Earlier, the teachers alleged that the State Government turned a deaf ear to various demands. To draw attention of the government, the teachers under the banner of Uttarakhand Junior High School Teacher Union took out a rally from Parade Ground to Secretariat. They shouted anti-government slogans at the Secretariat.

Union's general secretary Surat Singh Tomar said “the Chief Secretary has called up a meeting with the union members on Tuesday evening and assured that their demands will be addressed after discussing with education secretary Manisha Panwar who is presently in Delhi.”

The protesters said that several memorandums were submitted to the education officers. However, they turned a blind eye towards to their demand of incorporating the  junior high school teachers with Primary education directorate or Madhyamik Directorate. Yashwant Singh Negi, Shubhash Singh Chauhan, Dharmendra Singh Negi, Jagat Singh Negi, Ashok Joshi and hundred other teachers participated in the protest.
