Nodal officers and resource persons from five stakeholder States have presented their proposed models along with costs to be included in the final detailed project report for forestry interventions in the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
The proposed models were submitted at the start of the two-day meeting of nodal officers and resource persons at the Forest Research Institute here on Thursday.
FRI director as well as chief project coordinator Savita gave details of the progress achieved so far in the project while FRI Silviculture division head and project coordinator Neelu Gera also shared her views about the project.
Resource persons from specified fields and nodal officers from the stakeholder States-Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal also gave their inputs for DPR to be implemented in scientific manner to clean the Ganga. Representatives from Eco Task Force, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and ITBP attending the meeting expressed willingness to extend full support in DPR preparation project implementation.
It should be noted here that under the NMCG of the Ministry of Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, the FRI is working on preparation of a DPR for augmenting water flow in the Ganga through forestry interventions and to treat the water through biological filters.
In the project development phase to be followed by the implementation phase, a DPR is being prepared for an initial period of five years.
Following the action plan for the first phase, the first consultation meeting in the States of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal were held separately at Dehradun, Allahabad, Patna and Kolkata earlier this year. These meetings culminated in identification of various issues specific and common to these states.
Experiences learnt from these meetings were shared and deliberated upon along with identification of opportunities and constraints in national level stakeholders meetings held earlier at the institute.
