Meeting on extending date to submit property tax further held

With the extended period for depositing property tax having ended last week, Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli has decided to hold a meeting with officials at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun on Monday to discuss possibility of extending the period further. The issue of the 100 per cent house tax rebate announced by the State for serving and ex-servicemen will also be discussed in the meeting on Monday.

It will be recalled that the period for payment of house tax in the MCD had ended on March 31 after which the house tax would have to be paid with 12.5 surcharge.  However, considering public convenience the Mayor had ordered a four-day extension for payment of house tax.

During these four days a sum of about Rs20 lakh was deposited in tax for about 500 properties. Chamoli has called a meeting with officials on Monday to discuss whether the grace period for payment of house tax can be extended further. The issue of house tax for serving and retired servicemen will also be discussed in this meeting. It should be noted here that following a State Government decision, the MCD Board had also passed a proposal to provide 100 per cent house tax rebate for the serving and ex-servicemen.

However, since the district authority concerned did not provide the list of such eligible serving and ex-servicemen in the municipal area to the MCD, the corporation had decided that the serving and ex-servicemen would pay house tax which would be reimbursed to them later by the authority concerned.
