Meanwhile the chief secretary also directed the district magistrates of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli to control and conduct the Char Dham Yatra in present circumstances.

The CS said that slide zone sensitive areas have been identified and work is on for necessary treatment of such areas. He added that areas like lambagad, Hailang and Dharasu are critical. They should be treated according to scientific study. He stated that the work of building flood protection walls will also be done on priority.

Present in the meeting were additional CS Rakesh Sharma, Irrigation secretary Ajay Pradyot, PWD secretary Amit Negi and experts from other institutes.

Addressing the District Magistrates, the chief secretary made it clear that the pilgrimage to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Hemkund is open at present.  The Yatra might be halted at times during rains and landslides but does not stop completely. He has directed the DMs to ensure that there is no problem or inconvenience at any of these shrines at any given point of time.
