Meet on house tax policy postponed

The confusion regarding the rental based house tax policy or the self assessment based house tax policy is still not being cleared by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) officials.

The scheduled meeting for the most awaited house tax policy got postponed on Monday.

Additional Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (AMNA), Harshvardhan Mishra who was supposed to preside over the meeting was not present there and the meeting was postponed due to it.

However, a senior BJP councillor, Sushil Gupta, informed that the meeting was supposed to be held today but it was postponed due to the absence of the AMNA.

He said that hopefully some concrete decision would be taken in two three days regarding the revised house tax policy. He also said that chances of introduction of rental value based house tax policy are more but still the final decision is yet to come.

Meanwhile, he also informed that still some legal processes are to be done before declaring the final house tax policy.

In the last board meeting held in respect to the house tax policy, a decision on rental value based house tax policy was taken but due to the continuous opposition of the councillors the decision was dropped.

However, the surveys for the implementation of the house tax policy were also being consistently delayed in the absence of any proper house tax policy at MCD.

According to the Tax Superintendent at MCD, SP Gupta, there are around 20 such wards of the city, which are not paying house tax from last 15 years. The areas include Matamandir Road, Dronpuri, Majra, Turner Road, Rajeev Nagar, Defence Colony, Adhoiwala, Indrapuram, Kawali Road, Vasant Vihar, Indira Nagar, Mohit Nagar, Kaulagarh, Niranjanpur and Sahastradhara Road.

Gupta added that there are as many as 70,000 such houses which are not paying taxes which is also affecting the revenues of MCD.
