Nitin Diwakar, 25, a clerk in the office of the DIG (Jail) in Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in a hotel here on Friday. Police handed over the body to his family after post-mortem examination was conducted.
Police said that the postmortem report did not reveal the exact cause of the youth's death. The report will be sent to the forensic science laboratory here for further examination. Police are investigating.
Meerut native Nitin had reached Dehradun on Thursday and taken a room in a hotel in Patelnagar. On Friday, as no response came from the room, police, informed by the hotel staff, came and broke open the door to find the body on the bed.
He had vomited, police said. The body was sent for autopsy. No suicide note was found. The family members, who were informed, reached Dehradun and the body was handed over to them after the police formalities were over. No complaint has been lodged at the police station regarding the unnatural death so far, it is learnt.
